This suspension appliance – a hybrid optical device – represents a change of the light design paradigm.

As with the LED it was crucial to design without any biases connected with the use of traditional sources, the OLED is a technology with certain peculiarities that make it quite different from previous ones.

The product is a thorough review of light that starts from the features of this new technology.

The OLED, the acronym of Organic Light Emitting Diode, has a structure mostly made of carbon, and ensures uniform emission over a broad surface, with limited glare; while it has excellent colour rendering, its performance today is definitely not comparable to the LED’s in terms of emitted light and efficiency.

It is an open system that breaks with tradition, a hybrid system that brings together the LED and the OLED making the most of both technologies, and combining them to provide the best possible performance for man and his needs.

It is an interpretation of the most advanced technology combined with the craft blown-glass tradition. Once again, innovation and tradition come together to provide an unexpected result, and continue along the course of Artemide that started with Empatia, Incalmo, and Invero.

Within the soft geometry of a blown-glass diffuser, two separate optical devices are developed and work together to provide a light quality suited to design different scenarios and to ensure top performance.

The bottom features 4 pairs of adjustable OLED panels emitting from both sides and generating convergence between the source and the reflector.

Their tilt ensures that the emitted light is controlled by the geometry created by the same panels, and reflected within in a sort of reflector-mixing chamber, in order to optimize their performance while concentrating emission.

When off, the panels are a mirror surface reflecting the surroundings and the light emitted by the top LED source.

The upper optical unit starts from the emission of a COB LED and works across geometries, materials, and innovative finishes to control and diffuse light throughout the environment, particularly sidewise, and only to a limited extent indirectly.

Harry H is also designed in a more democratic version, with a traditional E27 joint substituting the LED and OLED sources. The principle of two separately controlled emissions is preserved to allow the freedom to define the qualities of light in space. It is a smart solution in terms of costs, as well as in terms of flexibility in adjusting to the evolution of standard source technologies.
