Green House, designed by Michele Bollini, is in the province of Como and characterised by simple lines and a green lawn. It was designed for a young family of four.

The single-storey construction (24x8 m) places great emphasis on a building that is comfortable to live in and on the interior-exterior dynamics, with exterior views and access from every room. The large living room and kitchen is connected to the bedrooms via a corridor. The utility rooms are north facing, with small windows, while the bedrooms look south, with large glazed walls that lead onto the small veranda that runs right along the south and west sides.

Inside, the design focuses on functionality, and clean lines, with custom-made furnishings “merging” into the architecture. The choice of materials and colours bring uniformity and order to the overall composition.

The house was built to minimise consumption and it obtained energy Class A certification. This was done using a variety of active and passive systems, including an external envelope insulated using mineral wool coating, solar and photovoltaic panels on the roof, and the careful layout of the rooms, windows and shading systems. For example, the small veranda acts as a filter between inside and outside, with a series of foldable sliding sunscreens. This was designed specifically for this house by Thema, which did all the doors, windows and sunscreens. The brise soleil panels are made of aluminium, but with a wood grain effect. They provide shade and privacy for the interiors, or they can be opened up completely to allow in more sun, depending on the season and time of day. These sunscreens not only make the house more comfortable to live in, but also add dynamism to its appearance as some can be opened, while others are left closed and so on. GreenTH 70 aluminium sliding doors, with thermal break, were provided by Schüco. These open completely onto the veranda, allowing the rooms to expand outwards. They also offer excellent heat insulation and ease of use. To provide shading for these glazed doors, motorised shutters were made in grey aluminium to blend into the exterior colour scheme.

The design for Green House was rigorous and focused on creating a comfortable, liveable environment combined with careful use of technology, materials and design elements. It achieves a balance between functionality, technical aspects and aesthetics that is suited to clients seeking synergy between architecture, life and nature.
